Edelaraudtee (Southwestern railway) is an Estonian railway company. Founded in 1997, it owns the lines from Tallinn to Pärnu and Viljandi, over which it runs both freight and passenger trains. Edelaraudtee also operates the passenger services from Tallinn to Narva, Orava, and Valga over lines belonging to the state-owned railway infrastructure company and freight operator Eesti Raudtee. British railway company GB Railways acquired Edelaraudtee in 2000, today it is part of FirstGroup. Edelaraudtee has resumed passenger train traffic between Tartu and Valga as of January 1st 2010 with 2 train pairs. Freight operations are handled by Czech-built ChME3 diesel shunters, while passenger services are provided by around twenty DR1A and DR1B diesel multiple units.
