Eastern Armenia was the portion of Ottoman Armenia and Persian Armenia that was ceded to the Russian Empire following the Russo-Turkish War, 1828-1829. ^[1] The history of the subregion in Eurasia is covered under Russian Armenia.

During the rule of Russian Empire, Eastern Armenia included:

• Erivan Governorate
• Kars Oblast
• western part of Yelizavetpol Governorate
• southern part of Tiflis Governorate

The Eastern Armenian dialect of the Armenian language is spoken primarily in the Caucasus region, Russia and Iran.

Eastern Armenia was part of the Transcaucasian SFSR from 1922, became the Armenian SSR in 1936, and the Republic of Armenia in 1991.
