[edit] Wilmington studioThe Wilmington studio is the largest production facility in the United States outside of California. Tours are offered each weekend for a small fee, which often include a visit to production sets for television shows such as One Tree Hill.[1] [edit] HistoryEUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington, NC was built by Dino De Laurentiis in 1984. It operated under the name DEG (De Laurentiis Entertainment Group), until 1990 when it was purchased by Carolco (producers of Terminator 2: Judgement Day). George Cooney, owner of EUE/Screen Gems LTD, acquired the Wilmington Studios in 1996 and renamed it EUE/Screen Gems Studios. In May 2009 EUE/Screen Gems Studios opened a 10th "Dream Stage" in Wilmington. This world-class, state-of-the-art studio is a 37,500 square foot columnless structure with a 50x50x6 foot 90,000 gallon special effects water tank. In 1965 Columbia Pictures acquired a fifty percent intent in the New York based commercial production company EUE (Elliot Unger and Elliot); Steve Elliot and his brother directed while Unger handled the business end (At that time Screen Gems was the television production division of Columbia Pictures). The commercial company was incorporated into the television division and renamed EUE/Screen Gems. In 1982, Columbia Pictures was sold to Coca-Cola. At that time EUE/Screen Gems and the New York production facility were sold to long time Columbia Pictures Executive, George Cooney. [edit] Notes
