ESSEC (École Supérieure des Sciences Économiques et Commerciales) is one of the foremost business schools and Grandes écoles in France, frequently ranked first by many magazines[1][2]. ESSEC was ranked 7th best MBA in the world by The Wall Street Journal[3] in 2007. The school is known for its extremely competitive entrance exam and has among its notable alumni many CEOs of French or international companies. ESSEC was created by Jesuits in 1907, and originally located in the heart of Paris, next to the University of Paris II: Panthéon-Assas, rue d'Assas. Its campus was later relocated to Cergy-Pontoise, 30 km west of Paris (Val d'Oise), in 1973.
[edit] Institution[edit] ESSEC Programs Overview
[edit] Accreditations
- In 1997, ESSEC became the first business school outside of North America to be accredited by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business); - In 2003, ESSEC also received accreditation for all its programs from EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System);
- ESSEC is accredited by the French Ministry of Education. [edit] Programs[edit] ESSEC MBAThe ESSEC MBA is an innovative model among MBA formats, as it is designed for students with no professional experience, instead of managers with 4–8 years of experience like most programs. The MBA diploma is only delivered upon completion of a required amount of time spent in internships. Admissions to the ESSEC MBA: the "Concours Grandes Ecoles" Along with HEC, ESSEC is one of the two top schools among the Business Grandes écoles, and as such it requires passing a very selective entrance examination. It takes place between May and June. Every year, ESSEC recruits about 360 students through this examination process. Most of the students who sit for the entrance examination come from the French “classes préparatoires”, also called “classes prépa”. The “classes préparatoires” last two years and their only purpose is to prepare students for the French Business Schools’ selective entrance examination. ESSEC, along with many other business schools, tests the candidates on their knowledge in mathematics, economics, history, philosophy, general culture and languages. The candidates must also pass a series of oral exams in order to enter the school.
It is however notable that many students in "classes préparatoires" choose not to pass the ESSEC exam because they consider it is too difficult. There are approximately 16,000 undergraduate students who follow this intensive academic training known as "prépa économiques et commerciales". MBA Double Degree Partners[4]
