Drew Hastings (born March 2, 1954) is an American stand-up comedian. Standing 6' 6" tall, he is often seen performing in his trademark black suit and black horn-rimmed glasses.
[edit] Early lifeDrew was born in Casablanca, Morocco to an English mother, Pamela, and an American G.I. father, also named Drew. He emigrated to the United States at a young age and grew up in the Midwest, particularly in the Ohio cities of Dayton and Cincinnati.[1] As an adult, Hastings owned several small businesses, including a trucking business and a document shredding company that never actually shredded any documents. Regardless, he was very successful in business at his age, and enjoyed playing polo in Cincinnati and Washington, D.C. in his spare time.[2] [edit] Stand-Up ComedyUnlike many other comedians who enter show business as young adults, Hastings did not decide to perform onstage until the age of thirty-one. After having lived in several large cities, including New York City, in the 1970s, he had moved back to Ohio. But, in the early 1990s, he again left Ohio and moved to Los Angeles, where he would later receive several guest-starring roles and television pilots for networks such as Fox, NBC, and HBO.[2] While in California, he also starred in several one-man shows, such as Commencement Speech, Life & Other Short Stories, and The Business of Living. The main character of The Business of Living, a motivational speaker/success guru named "Jack Freeman," gained a small cult following in California and has become increasingly popular throughout the Midwest. While living in L.A., he got a rare standing ovation on "The Tonight Show."[3] Hastings would later sit in as a guest on The Bob & Tom Show, where he quickly became an audience favorite.[4] In 2006, he starred in The Friends of Bob & Tom Comedy Central special alongside other comedians such as Bob Zany, Greg Hahn, Roy Wood, Jr., and Mike Armstrong. On April 26, 2008, Comedy Central aired Drew Hastings: Irked and Miffed, Hastings' premiere one-hour television special. The performance was released on May 6, 2008 through Image Entertainmentand can be purchased at Amazon, via link found on http://www.drewhastings.com. [edit] The Farm
Even after living in Los Angeles for 13 years, Hastings never truly enjoyed West Coast life. Observing his strongly Midwestern touring patterns combined with his disdain for California, Drew decided to buy himself a small 50-acre (200,000 m2) farm back in Ohio.[5] After many unfortunate incidents raising four pigs and three chickens (all of which are now dead), he settled on raising a small herd of Black Angus cattle. He also owns one cat, Black Kitty. The herd is comprized of nine cows and seven calves. Some of the cows' names include Five, Screamy, Crazy Cow, Weezy, and 50 (pronounced "Fitty," as in "50 Cent"); several of the calves' names include Crazy Calf, Mulatto, and Buckets. Two new calves were born in June 2008. The first, an unnamed black-and-white bull born to 50, was born June 7; Mulatto, a brown heifer born to a black mother, was born on June 16. Weezy died of bloat on September 26, 2008, despite extensive treatment to save her. She took with her her unborn calf, Lucky. [edit] Discography
