Dongducheon is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. The city located in the north of Seoul is strategically important for the defence of the Korean capital.The main camps of the US Second Infantry Division are located in the city with the division command at Uijeongbu City. Then-Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld toured Camp Casey at Dongducheon on November 18, 2003.[1]
[edit] HistoryDuring Goguryeo, dynasty was going down into Korean peninsula and Dongducheon came to parts of Goguryeo as a part of naeulmae hyun (kinds of ancient village). Later Dongducheon promoted into Sacheon village of Unified Silla in North South States Period. It was the part of Yangju in Goryeo.[2] [edit] Modern historyIn 1963, the status was raised into Tongducheon town (eup). In 1981, Dongducheon city was established including Yangju county. [edit] Statistics[edit] FestivalStarting from 1999, Dongducheon has annually held one of the biggest rock festivals in South Korea. In 2007, the festival was held at Camp Nimble which was land given back to Korea. Also, maple festival takes place around several streets and parts of the city.
