"Don't Say Goodbye" is a song written by Cheryl Yie and Joshua Rubin for Rubio's sixth album Border Girl (2002). It was produced by Doug Morris, Bruce Carbone and Sal Guastella and released as the album's first single single in North America and Europe (see 2002 in music). It received large promotion in countries whom were new to her music, like the United States and the United Kingdom, and she appeared on many important programs, including Jay Leno and The Rosie O'Donnell Show in the United States, and Jonathan Ross and CD:UK in Britain.
[edit] The songAccording to MTV.com, "Don't Say Goodbye," blends buoyant techno beats, sweeping keyboards, jangly guitars and stratospheric vocals. The track is about a former boyfriend of Rubio's who got goin' just when the goin' was gettin' good. [edit] Music videoThe music video for "Don't Say Goodbye" is heavy influenced by the Japanese film Akira and was directed by American duo The Brothers Strause and filmed in Los Angeles, California in early April, 2002.[1] Rubio said about the video that "We did part of it like a Japanese cartoon, and for the dancing, we feel the rhythm of the song because the beat is almost like a heartbeat. The story is about this love that you feel with someone and he just takes one step back. I was riding the motorcycle with him, and at the end, well, he makes his choice. I was riding the bike 'til the end of love. And I was driving, of course. I was in charge". The clip, which will be submitted to video channels in the next two weeks, features a combination of animation, live action and dancing shots that loosely convey the narrative of the song.
