Dokuz Eylül University is one of the preeminent universities in Turkey. The university is located in İzmir, Turkey. It was founded in 1982 and is organized in 10 schools. DEU is the first university which applied the problem-based learning method in Turkey, beginning in School of Medicine in 1997. Several components of Dokuz Eylül University have attained a goal of continuous development in education, research and practice through the ISO 9001 2000 Quality Management System certificate: Social Sciences Institute and School of Maritime Business and Management (2001), University Presidency (2003) and Medical Faculty and Health Sciences Institute (2004). [edit] History Founded on July 20, 1982, the university was named on September 9, 1922, after the Greek occupation of İzmir ended after World War I. Seventeen previously founded institutions, including some of the faculties of Ege University and other higher education institutes, became affiliated to the University in the same year. Dokuz Eylül University sustains a nationwide reputation in Turkey through ten faculties, five schools, five vocational schools, five graduate schools and five institutes. [edit] Organization There are 10 schools of discipline into which the university is divided: [edit] Campus sites - Alsancak (D.E.U. [edit] Notable alumni [edit] See also [edit] Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering History of Department Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department was founded by Prof. Dr. Hakkı Oranç at 17 February 1981 as a department of Ege University Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. After the foundation of Dokuz Eylül University, EEE department has continued its activity in the structure of the Faculty of Engineering of DEU. Department started its undergraduate program in 1981 and graduate program in 1982. It has continued its graduate program in English since 1987 and undergraduate program since 1993. The department moved to the new campus, Buca Kaynaklar, in 1997. Since the beginning of the 2002-2003 academic year, Problem Based Learning is applied as education system. Introduction to Department The purpose of the department is to train creative engineers in theoretical and applied subjects to meet the needs of industry and society. For this purpose, the program includes courses on circuits, electronics, electromagnetics, computers, control, power and communication systems. There are two specialization branches, power electronics and telecomunication, which are optional to fourth year students. The cources are supported by modern instructional facilities in the department's: - Microprocessor Lab.
- Biomedical Lab.
- Telecommunication Lab.
- Computer Lab.
- Antennas Lab.
- Energy Systems Lab.
- Control Lab.
- Elecronics Lab.
- Electrics Lab.
- Electrical Machinary Lab.
In addition to the undergraduate program, graduate program gives opportunities to qualified students for further education at an advanced level. The candidates fulfilling the university requirements are awarded the degree of Master of Science (M.S.) or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. A minimum of 7 courses and a seminar on the thesis topic is required by the department for the M.S. and Ph.D degree. Faculty
