"Dogs" is a song recorded by The Who in 1968[1]. It was released as a single and reached number 25 on the UK singles chart. The lyrics of Dogs are a loose Pete Townshend narrative centering on romance and beer at a Greyhound racing track. The recording features vocals from Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and John Entwistle. The song was not a major commercial success at the time of its release, perhaps because of its bizarre and campy style. The song contains both singing and spoken-word sections, and includes the memorable closing line, "Lovely buttocks." The song features a friend of Pete Townshend's, Chris Morphet, on harmonica and backing vocals. The Dogs single was never released in the U.S. It remained officially unavailable there until it was release on a rarities collection album in 1987. A subsequent song Dogs Part Two was later released as the B-side of "Pinball Wizard." Despite the similar titles the two songs are musically unrelated. Dogs Part Two is an instrumental credited to Keith Moon. Both songs were included on the 1987 collection U.S. collection Two's Missing. That album is out-of-print, but the song is still available in a newer stereo re-mix on the box set 30 Years of Maximum R&B. [edit] References
