"Do You Remember" is the second single by British Asian R&B artist Jay Sean from his American-debut album, All or Nothing. The single features Jamaican dancehall musician Sean Paul and American rapper Lil Jon. The song is produced by J-Remy and Bobby Bass. The song was released to U.S. radio stations on October 20, 2009 and released as a digital download on iTunes on November 3, 2009. It has so far reached #16 on the Billboard Hot 100[1] and sold over 351,602 downloads in the United States.
[edit] RecordingThe track was recorded after Sean Paul caught Jay Sean on the VMAs and Jay explained: I was like, "What are you talking about? Me? I'm brand new to America," Sean said when asked about the lineup. "You could choose anybody and I'm from England, so this is incredible. To be up there with such amazing, Grammy Award-winning artists is an honor." "On the red carpet, doing an interview," he recalled. "Sean Paul is over there and he goes, 'Yo! Yeah man, Jay Sean!' And I said, 'Hi Sean ... Paul.' This was the first time I'd ever met him. And he just said, 'Me and you need to work together.' Two days later I called him and sent him the track, and sent it back to me the same day — and he was in Jamaica."[2] [edit] VersionsThere are two versions of the song.
[edit] Music videoThe video was shot in Los Angeles on November 11, 2009[3] with Sean Paul and Lil Jon and was directed by Gil Green.[4] It features Sean, Paul and Lil Jon in a New York City block party setting and features cameos by DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia, Tyga, Birdman and Kevin Rudolf. The music video was premiered on BET on December 2, 2009. [edit] ReceptionDJBooth commented, "like 'Down', this jam has undeniable club/radio appeal – thanks in large part to J Remy & BobbyBass’ upbeat, string-led instrumental - which sounds a lot like their boardwork on Down. "Do You Remember" may not be a drastic departure from its predecessor, but Sean’s recipe for number-one success yields an equally appetizing result the second time around."[5] [edit] Chart performanceIn the United States, "Do You Remember" debuted at #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the chart week of November 21, 2009, making it Sean's highest debut charting single on the Hot 100.
