Discovery Channel (Australia) is part of a seven channel network on cable and satellite television in Australia. This network includes three locally programmed channels and three foreign programmed channels.

The Australian version of the Discovery Channel is operated by XYZnetworks^[3], who also own the exclusive distribution rights for the channel.^[1] It was launched in July 1995, replacing the Quest documetary channel launched in April 1995 by XYZ.^[4] Since the renaming of Travel & Adventure to Travel & Living, much of the travel genre programming (including first run series) has been removed from the Channel. On the 29th of March, 2009 Discovery rebranded in line with Discovery US, complete with new Id's and the slogan 'The World Is Just Awesome.' On April 4 2009, Discovery will relaunch its Discovery Kids branding on the channel after 6 years of hiatus.

Animal Planet launched locally in Australia exclusively on Optus Television in October 1999. The channel is dedicated to programming that highlights the relationship between humans and animals. It has since expand to multiple carriers.

Discovery Travel and Living was launched in 2004, formerly it was known as the Discovery Travel and Adventure Channel. Programming on the channel consists primarily of travel and lifestyle.

Discovery Turbo features more outdoor orientated lifestyle content, such as motoring and fishing, and is the only Discovery channel available in Australia not broadcast through the major providers Foxtel, Optus or Austar.

Discovery Turbo Max is a local sister channel to Discovery Turbo. Unlike Turbo it is broadcast on Foxtel & Austar.

Discovery Science features science focused programs. The Asian feed began broadcasting into Australian in March 2004, as part of the new Foxtel Digital service.

Discovery Home and Health was formerly known as Discovery Health. The South East Asian feed began broadcasting into Australian in March 2004, as part of the new Foxtel Digital service. The channel features a mix of entertainment; from makeover and wedding programs to health programs dealing with various health issues.
