Diego Benzi (born on August 23, 1987 in Puerto Varas) is a Chilean soccer player who currently plays for North York Astros in the Canadian Soccer League.

[edit] Playing career

Benzi began his professional career with the North York Astros in 2008. He made his Astros debut in a match against the Serbian White Eagles on September 7, 2008[1]. In his first season with the North York side Benzi appeared in 6 matches and helped the team clinch a playoff spot. He also helped the Astros set an all time record for most points and wins in a season[2]. But unfortunately during their playoff run the Astros were eliminated by the Serbian White Eagles in the quarterfinal match, with the game ending 2-1 in favor of the White Eagles[3].

On May 27, 2009 Benzi re-signed with the Astros for the 2009 season. He was one of the seven returning veterans to be re-signed by the newly appointed Astros head coach Ugur Cimen[4]. He was a regular member for the starting eleven throughout the 2009 season, and even managed to record his first professional goal in a match against TFC Academy on June 6, 2009[5]. Unfortunately the Astros failed to achieve their repeat of last seasons success on the field, and finished second last in the National Division. In total Benzi appeared in 12 matches and recorded 3 goals; finishing second in goal scoring for the Astros.
