The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) is a name used in a number of countries.
[edit] IndiaThe Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) is a part of the Ministry of Science and Technology, which was announced through a Presidential Notification, dated January 4, 1985 (74/2/1/8 Cab.) contained in the 164th Amendment of the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) has a mandate to carry out the activities relating to indigenous technology promotion, development, utilization and transfer. It also overlooks the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian largest research and development organization. [edit] New ZealandFounded in 1926 by (amongst others) Ernest Marsden. [edit] UKThe DSIR in the United Kingdom was a government department with responsibilities for research from 1917 to 1965. It was formed during World War I with the aim of enhancing Scientific and Industrial Research by means of government funding. The initial budget in 1917 was £1,000,000.
