Ethnic composition of Albania, according to communist data of 1989:
Red - Albanian majority
Green - Greek majority
Yellow - Macedonian majority
Albanian: 95%
Greek: 3%
other: 2% (Aromanians (Vlachs), Roma (Gypsy), Serbs, Slav Macedonians, (1989 est.)

Vlachs (Aromanians) live in the south of the country,[3] whereas Serbs/Montenegrins live in the north.[4]

Although conducting a satisfactory census of ethnic minorities is one of the country's commitments to the European Union, the Albanian government does not intend to conduct an official census to clarify the ethnic composition of the population.[5] The last census to include data on ethnic minorities was conducted in 1989 under the communist regime. The latest census conducted in 2001 did not collect information about ethnic groups and nationalities in the population.[6]
