The Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area is a Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) consisting of Volusia County in the state of Florida in the USA making it the 100th biggest in the United States. The principal cities in the MSA are Deltona, Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach. In 2005 the population of the MSA was 494,649.[1] The Daytona Beach, Florida Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area was first defined in 1973. In 1993 Flagler County was added to the MSA. In 2003 Flagler County was removed from the MSA, Deltona and Ormond Beach were named principal cities, and the name was changed to its present form.
[edit] Principal Cities and TownsAs of January 2008, the Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area has 16 incorporated cities and towns.
[edit] CommerceThe Volusia County Metro Area is best known for its tourism industry, which attracts millions of visitors each year. Motorsports dominate the area, with several race track venues as magnets. The best known is Daytona International Speedway, where the headquarters of NASCAR is located. Other racing venues include New Smyrna Speedway and Volusia Speedway Park. Other motorsport events include Daytona Beach Bike Week, a massive biker rally that occurs in March, and several classic car shows. The main natural attraction for tourists are the Volusia County beaches, with Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, and Ormond Beach being the largest draws. Major surface highways include US 1, US 17, and US 92, known locally as International Speedway Boulevard within Daytona Beach. [edit] Mass transitPublic bus transportation in Volusia County is provided by VOTRAN, which connects all the major cities. Paratransit service is also offered by VOTRAN.
