Debraj Shome is a noted Indian facial plastic surgeon. He specializes in facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, facial and ocular oncology (cancers) and orbital surgery. He is currently the Head of Institute for Aesthetics and Cosmetic Surgery at Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad, India[1]. He headed and developed the department of Ophthalmic & Facial Plastic Surgery at one of India's leading ophthalmic hospitals, Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital, Mumbai.[2] and at the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. [3] He is also visiting faculty to the department of Head & Neck Surgery at the M D Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, USA.

Shome completed his undergraduate medical education from Grant Medical College and Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals[4], Mumbai; one of India's oldest medical schools. He went on to specialize in ophthalmology and completed his residency from Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. He obtained the degrees of F.R.C.S. (Fellow of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow) in 2003 and also his Diplomate of National Board (D.N.B.) in 2004.[5]Over the years, he has specialised in facial plastic and aesthetic surgery.[6]. He has also completed his MBA in Healthcare Management from Vanderbilt University, USA.[7]
- Dr. Debraj Shome specialized in oculoplastic surgery, ocular oncology and orbital surgery from L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad [8]. He then completed a Fellowship in Facial Plastic surgery from the USA. Shome was also the head of the department of Ophthalmic & Facial Plastic Surgery, Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital, Mumbai, India.[9]
- Shome was an honorary Consultant - Ocular Oncology, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.[3]
- He was also a part of the academic team of Aditya Jyot Institute of Optometry, Mumbai, India[10].

- Dr. Debraj Shome was the winner of Eye Quest 2006. Eye Quest is the official quiz of the AIOS (All India Ophthalmological Society) ; held at the annual conference. For this honour, he along with noted cornea surgeon, Dr. Vandana Jain were felicitated by The President of India, His Excellency, The Honourable Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.[18][19]
- Dr. Debraj Shome co authored a paper on Orbital Tuberculosis, which was awarded the 'Best Paper' (Inflammation Session) at the Annual Conference of AIOS, 2006. [20]
- Dr. Debraj Shome was a part of a team of Indian doctors who created a 'nano' version of Carboplatin.[21][22]. This won the 'Best Paper' award in Pediatric Ophthalmology session in the AIOS Annual meeting held at Hyderabad when presented as "Periocular Carboplatin in Retinoblastoma with vitreous seeds"[23]
- Shome is also a reviewer for the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology, the flagship journal of the All India Ophthalmological Society.[24] and 'Ophthalmology' - The American Academy of Ophthalmology flagship Journal.[25]
- Dr. Debraj Shome was featured as an 'Achiever', by Health Care Express, a leading weekly healthcare publication by the Indian Express group.[26]
