Darren Graham Mackie (born 5 January 1982 in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a striker for Aberdeen in the Scottish Premier League. He is currently the club's record Scottish Premier League top goal-scorer.
[edit] CareerMackie, a product of the Aberdeen youth system, has been with the club since 1998. He scored fifteen goals for Aberdeen in 2004-05 which helped his team to a fourth place finish. Mackie has been hit by injuries during his time at the club but is still seen as an important player due to his pace, tenacious attitude and sporadic bursts of goal-scoring. He finished the 2006-07 season with 13 league goals. He scored a particularly bizarre goal during that season, when Kilmarnock goalkeeper Alan Combe, in an attempt to throw the ball to one of his teammates after an Aberdeen shot, instead hit the back of Mackie's head with his throw. The ball rebounded off the striker's head, looping over the helpless keeper into the back of the net. He scored his 50th goal for Aberdeen in the UEFA Cup first round tie versus FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. The goal put Aberdeen into the Group Stages of that competition, and secured a substantial financial windfall for the club. Mackie also scored the winning goal against Celtic at Celtic Park in the Scottish Cup quarter final replay on 18 March 2008. Aberdeen won the tie 1-0. Mackie scored his 50th league goal for Aberdeen on 20 December 2008 against Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. He signed a new three-year contract with Aberdeen in February 2009.[1] In July-August 2009, he was voted by the public as Aberdeen's all time greatest player.[2] Mackie has failed to score a goal at Aberdeen's home ground Pittodrie since the final day of the 2007-2008 season.
