Daniel Jack Berg is an Australian minor league baseball player born in Glen Iris, Victoria. He is currently with the Minnesota Twins organization as a utility player who primarily plays catcher or first base. Berg is 6' tall and weighs 200 lbs., and throws and bats right-handed. He shares his birthday, November 21, 1984 with fellow Twins farmhands Danny Vais & Danny Valencia.[1] Berg debuted for the Victoria Aces in the 2003 Claxton Shield and batted 2 for 13. He then travelled to the US to play college ball for Texarkana College and the Minnesota Twins drafted him in the 30th round in 2004 Major League Baseball Draft. Berg made his professional debut in 2005, hitting a dismal .159 for the GCL Twins. In the 2006 Claxton Shield, he went 8 for 18 with a tournament best 11 walks in 7 games for the Aces. Back in the US in 2006, Danny played for the Beloit Snappers batting at a .192/.313/.308 clip in 9 games before he was demoted to the Elizabethton Twins, where he hit .253/.353/.466. He led one of the Appalachian League in runs scored. He did not have a regular position, playing first base, catcher and third base that season. In the 2007 Claxton Shield, Berg batted .259 for Victoria to help them win the Shield title. He spent the 2007 minor league season with Beloit, struggling again with .214/.298/.291 in 101 games. He played five different positions (1B, 3B, C, RF and LF) in addition to DH. Berg starred in the Claxton Shield 2008, hitting .400/.429/.750 with 3 home runs, second to Olympic Silver Medalist Tom Brice. Daniel was selected for the Australian national baseball team in the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament and played regularly, batting .308/.367/.462 with 7 runs in 7 games. Daniel split the 2008 season between the Fort Myers Miracle (.279/.381/.414 in 67 games) and the New Britain Rock Cats (.255/.327/.319 in 15 games).[2] Berg was on the Australian roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
