Daniel John Rogerson (born 23 July 1975, St Austell) is the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for North Cornwall, first elected at the 2005 General election.
[edit] Early lifeCornish born and bred, Rogerson went to Bodmin College (comprehensive school), then studied Politics at the University of Wales Aberystwyth (Aberystwyth University since September 2007). Rogerson was previously a councillor on Bedford Borough Council from 1999-2002.[citation needed] [edit] Parliamentary careerRogerson contested North East Bedfordshire in 2001. In 2005 he used the Cornish language during the swearing of allegiance in Parliament along with Andrew George in an effort to support the preservation of Cornish identity and culture. In 2006 Rogerson asked the government to make 5 March a public holiday in Cornwall to recognise celebrations for St Piran's Day.[1] Rogerson is chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Cheese, and opposed Ofcom's inclusion of cheese in its new regulations restricting television advertising of junk foods to children aged under 16.[2] On the 14 July 2009, Dan Rogerson, presented a Cornish 'breakaway' bill to the Parliament in Westminster. The bill proposes a devolved Cornish Assembly, similar to the Welsh and Scottish set up.[3] He is currently the youngest male MP in the House of Commons.[citation needed] [edit] Personal lifeHe married Heidi Purser in August 1999 in Bodmin.
