Daniel Hoffard "Dan" Kennedy (born 22 July 1982, in Fullerton, California) is an American soccer player who currently plays for Chivas USA in Major League Soccer.
[edit] Career[edit] College and AmateurKennedy attended El Dorado High School in Placentia, California. After graduating, he went to college at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He majored in Communications and minored in Sports Management. Where he was also an All-American Goalkeeper for the soccer team, the UCSB Gauchos,[1] setting numerous school records the most notable being career shutout leader shutouts. He was a member of the 2004 UCSB team that marched to the finals of the 2004 Division I Men's College Cup. In the championship game against Indiana University, Kennedy allowed only 1 goal through extra time, UCSB ended up losing in a penalty shootout. Kennedy was named to the All Tournament team for his performances is the playoffs. During his college years, Kennedy also played with Orange County Blue Star in the USL Premier Development League. He played alongside Jürgen Klinsmann, who played under a pseudonym, as well as UCSB teammate Tony Lochhead. [edit] ProfessionalKennedy was drafted by Chivas USA in the 4th Round (38th Overall) of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft out of UCSB and joined the MetroStars as a substitute goalkeeper, before joining the Puerto Rico Islanders in 2005.[2] He made his debut with the club and his performances in the season saw him finish second in the league's goalkeeping stakes and led to him being named Rookie of the Year by the United Soccer Leagues.[3] His performances earned him a move abroad to Municipal Iquique in Chile, where he assumed the starting role on arrival. He went on to lead the league in Goals Against Average for the 2007 season. On 9 April 2008 it was announced that Municipal had transferred Kennedy to Chivas USA.[4] In the final game of the 2008 MLS season, Dan received a red card meaning he had to sit out the first round of the MLS playoffs.
