For other persons of the same name, see Daniel Brown.
Dan Brown is a sophomore majoring in Political Science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln who has been noted in the media for his newly and widely viewed self made videos that he posts on YouTube under the alias "Pogobat." This channel was where Dan Brown posted his first videos such as the Rubiks Cube tutorial. Then later on creating a second channel "Dan Browns Universe" where his "DBU" series flourished.
[edit] OverviewPart 1 of Brown's video on how to solve Rubik's cube has had over 13 million views as of December 2009 - part 2 has had over 7 and a half million views. Brown is also noteworthy for the amount of money that he has earned from the advertisements that YouTube places alongside his videos as part of its partners program which was created in December 2007. As of early 2009 he was earning approximately $2500 per month from the program. Brown stated, "I look at YouTube now really as a career... not something I’ll be doing forever, but I have not maxed out my potential at all." Earning this money allowed Brown to take a trip to China. In China he made vlogs telling his viewers what he was doing on his trip. His videos cover a wide variety of topics, including legalizing marijuana, Barack Obama, Pirates Vs. Ninjas, doomsday predictions, subliminal messages, guitar and piano Tributes to Youtubers Mememolly and DaxFlame respectively, and the existence of aliens. "How To Solve A Rubik's Cube" earned him first place in the instructional video category of the second annual YouTube Video Awards in 2007. He appeared on Fox's Studio B show. He has also received coverage from the New York Post and Associated Press. He stated, "I like the attention, but what I like even better are the comments from people saying ‘Dan you’re wrong,’ I want to be as smart and well-informed as possible." Besides solving the Rubik's cube, some of his other talents include stunt pogo, card tricks, drumming, and juggling. He has explained his opinions on illegal immigration, gay marriage, abortion, God, and global warming.[4] During the 2008 U.S. election campaign, Brown was interviewed on CNN[5], where he stated, "I'd prefer any of the Democrats over any of the Republicans, with the exception of perhaps Ron Paul."[6] Brown did not figure out his own method of solving the Rubik's cube. In fact, he just looked at the instructions included with the popular puzzle cube. He stated this in a television interview he did for his local news network. Regardless, the beginner method that he taught is sometimes called the Dan Brown Method. Dan Brown's Rubik's cube video is currently the most viewed tutorial on solving Rubik's cubes. He is the 48th most subscribed director on YouTube. Dan Brown is also known on YouTube as Pogobat. He chose this name because he is a fan of the band The Aquabats and of pogo sticks. His other channel, Dan Brown's Universe, featured a vlog series of the same name, which has since been moved to his Pogobat channel. DBU features segments such as Interesting Viewer, Let's Go On An Adventure, Contest Time, Let's Put Stuff On Dan's Wall, etc. This last segment is where Dan puts items that viewers send him on his wall that he uses as a backdrop for videos. Now the DBU channel features extras from his DBU vlogs, as well as a popular interactive collaboration with fellow Youtubers such as the Vlog Brothers and Household Hacker, called "Who Wants To Be A YouTubillionaire?". He also hosted a few episodes of the web show PopTub in November 2009. Dan has reached several milestones in his YouTube career by reaching over 100,000 subscribers[7] and 2 million page views. Brown's achievements have also been cited by The Washington Post[8], MSNBC[9], Fox News[10], the St. Petersburg Times[11], and the Canadian CBC News[12]. Dan Brown is set to appear as a contestant on the American version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. His episode is set to appear on January, 2010.[13] Some refer to Dan Brown (YouTube) as the creator of the book "The Davinci Code" but as he explains in in his videos he is not (but he wrote The Lost Symbol). Dan Brown has recently revealed to his fans that he is in love, as exemplified by his video "Dan Brown Unplugged" in which he admits that he is in love with a girl who "bring[s] color to [his] world." He also admits that he has "been around the bases a few times." Popular conjecture, widely derived from his Facebook page, indicates that the interest mentioned in this song is Danielle deLeon, a student photographer currently attending SCAD in Savannah, Georgia. It is unknown whether they plan to get married in the near future, but Brown admits that "when [he] looks into [her] eyes, [he] sees [his] whole life there with [her]."[14] [edit] See also[edit] References
