Woolford played for Castleford Tigers from 1949 to 1954, where he made 67 appearances, scoring 14 tries and 42 points.^[1] He was Featherstone Rovers' record try scorer.^[2]

His son Neil was a rugby league player with Featherstone Rovers and grandson Martyn is a footballer with Scunthorpe United.^[2]
