The first Cottman Transmission Center was established in 1962 and the company later expanded to hundreds of locations throughout the United States and Canada. Cottman continues to operate hundreds of car repair centers throughout the United States and Canada. In 2006, Cottman began its Total Auto Care program which brings their 40 years of expertise to all aspects of car repair. Terry Bradshaw was the the spokesperson for the company from 2005 to 2007. His contract was not renewed in 2008 due to the fact that most of the Cottman stores have converted to AAMCO, and there are no new Cottman Centers that will be opened.

Cottman continues to operate totally separate from competitor AAMCO although they are owned by the same parent holding company.
