Contact Air Flugdienst is a regional airline headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.^[1] It operates scheduled services as part of the Lufthansa Regional system. Its main base is Stuttgart Airport^[2].

The airline was established and started operations in 1974. It was established by Gunther Eheim as a worldwide passenger and executive charter airline, operating a fleet of Dassault Falcon 20 and Bombardier Learjet aircraft. It became the first partner airline in the Team Lufthansa regional group in April 1996. On 16 October 2003 the airline introduced the new Lufthansa Regional brand and began operating as such in early 2004. It is wholly owned by Gunther Eheim^[2].

Contact Air operates the following services (at June 2009):

Domestic scheduled destinations: Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Hof/Plauen, Munich, Nuremberg, Stuttgart and Westerland.
International scheduled destinations: Brussels, Jersey. London, Milan, Nice, Turin and Vienna
Swiss International scheduled destinations: Stuttgart, Venice, Warsaw and Zurich

ATR 72

The Contact Air fleet consists of the following aircraft (as of 27 December 2009):^[3]

5 ATR 42-500 (which are operated as Lufthansa Regional)
2 ATR 72-500 (which are operated as Lufthansa Regional for Air Dolomiti)
8 Fokker 100 (5 of which are operated as Lufthansa Regional, 2 for Swiss International Air Lines, and 1 being stored.

As of 21 March 2009, the average Contact Air fleet age was 10.4 years^[4].

[edit] Incidents and accidents

Emergency landing of Flight 288 at Stuttgart Airport

On 14 September 2009, Flight 288 from Berlin Tegel Airport (operated on behalf of Lufthansa as Lufthansa Flight 288/LH288), operated by Fokker 100 D-AFKE made an emergency landing at Stuttgart Airport due to undercarriage failure. The five crew and 73 passengers,^[5] among them Franz Müntefering, were not injured.^[6]
