A component chart is a chart which is used to calculate a more primary chart. The practice is mostly used by Billboard Magazine in the United States. Most international charts do not use component charts, but instead use only one mean of calculation, usually sales.
[edit] Hot 100The Hot 100 is calculated from three component charts:
In turn, the Hot 100 Airplay is comprised on the various airplay-only charts, including but not limited to Top 40 Mainstream, Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks, Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks, Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, Alternative Songs, and the Rhythmic Airplay Chart. When tabulating sales, the raw amount is left unaltered for tabulation of the sales charts by themselves. However, when points are being tabulated for the Hot 100, sales in both sales components are multiplied by two before being added. [edit] Pop 100The Pop 100, now defunct, was calculated from three component charts:
When tabulating sales, the raw amount is left unaltered for tabulation of the sales charts by themselves. However, when points are being tabulated for the Pop 100, sales in both sales components are multiplied by two before being added. [edit] Hot R&B/Hip-Hop SongsThe Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs is calculated from two component charts.
Digital downloads are not counted towards the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs [edit] Hot Digital SongsHot Digital Songs is calculated from one component chart (although it is a component in the sense that multiple versions chart).
The Hot Digital Songs chart is made up of the total points of each song on Hot Digital Tracks. Often only one track of a song charts, and all points of the song are identical to the amount of points it would receive on both charts. However, it is very common nowadays to have remixes, radio edits, alternate mixes, live performance versions, etc. chart. Each version of the song is then added up to form the total point tabulation. Even if the song fails to chart on the Hot Digital Tracks chart, each version sold will be calculated towards total tabulation. [edit] Dance and Country chartsAlthough there are three dance charts (Hot Dance Club Play, Hot Dance Singles Sales, and Hot Dance Airplay), none of these charts are components of each other, nor is any a larger chart formed from the other. The Country music chart is not used to compile a larger chart either, although its data is used for Hot 100 tabulations. |
