The centre is used to quarantine patients with highly infectious diseases such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. All patients who are affected with these highly contagious diseases are quarantined at the CDC and the centre is used to control an outbreak of such diseases. The hospital was used in 2003 to house the majority of the patients infected by the SARS coronavirus. As the centre could not accommodate all the infected patients, other hospitals were used as well.

[edit] History

The CDC was known as the Middleton Hospital when it first opened in 1907 to function as an isolation camp. The centre became a branch of Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 1985 and is now run by the National Healthcare Group. [1]
