Comedy hip hop is a sub-genre of hip hop music that has satirical lyrics^[1][2][3] or contains some other comedic value. While a lot of comedy hip hop could be considered a parody of the hip hop genre, this is not always the case. While mainstream rappers such as Eminem and Ludacris often have comedic lyrics, they are generally not considered comedy rap. Afroman, a rapper from Palmdale, often uses marijuana and sex as a comedic element. Comedian Jeff Duran's 2006 release Still Kicking mixed stand up, skits and rap. The hip hop duo Insane Clown Posse applies a liberal amount of black comedy to their content, especially on their earlier albums. The Lonely Island, best known for their work on Saturday Night Live, have achieved success with songs like "Lazy Sunday", "Jizz in My Pants", and other songs from their album Incredibad. Some newer acts have also been added to the genre including bands like 3OH!3, Liberty Gigoloz, Jamie Kennedy & Stu Stone, Asher Roth, and Gym Class Heroes.

Nerdcore hip hop, a subgenre that deals with geek culture, also often incorporates comedic themes.
