Coat of arms of Kosovo.svg
Details
Adopted February 17, 2008
Escutcheon Six white stars in an arc above a solid golden shape of Kosovo as seen on a standard projection map, placed on a rounded triangular shield with a blue field and a golden border.

The Coat of Arms of the Republic of Kosovo[a] was introduced but not yet formally adopted following the unilateral declaration of independence from Serbia, issued by Kosovo's parliament in the country's capital on 17 February 2008. It shows six white stars in an arc above a solid golden shape of Kosovo as seen on a standard projection map, placed on a rounded triangular shield with a blue field and a golden border.[1] Its central figures, the stars and the shape, are also the content of the new blue flag of Kosovo, already adopted at the same time.

[edit] Approved logo during United Nations administration

The United Nations administration in Kosovo had established an approved logo of the Provisional Institutions of Self Government in Kosovo. It should be noted that this was an "approved logo" for the PISG and not an official coat of arms for Kosovo.

UNMIK has issued two regulations relating to the use of logos on official seals and stamps and on use of logos by the Provisional Institutions of Self Government.

UNMIK regulation UNMIK/REG/2000/30 [2] (20th May 2000) "ON STAMPS AND HEADINGS OF OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS OF COURTS, PROSECUTORS’ OFFICES AND PENAL ESTABLISHMENTS" states that the seals and letter heads of courts and penal establishments should contain "The emblem of the United Nations with “UNMIK” added to the top of the emblem" and the word "“Kosovo” in Albanian, Serbian and English"
ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTION NO. 2003/15 [3][4](2nd July 2003) "IMPLEMENTING UNMIK REGULATION NO. 2001/9 ON A CONSTITUTIONAL FRAMEWORK FOR PROVISIONAL SELF-GOVERNMENT IN KOSOVO" Establishes an "approved logo" for the Provisional Institutions of Self Government.

[edit] Notes and references

Notes:

a.   ^ Kosovo is the subject of a territorial dispute between the Republic of Serbia and the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo. The Assembly of Kosovo unilaterally declared its independence on 17 February 2008, a move that is recognised by 64 of the 192 UN member states and the Republic of China (Taiwan), but not by other UN member states. Serbia claims it as part of its own sovereign territory.
