The City of Fremantle is a Local Government Area in southern metropolitan Perth, the capital of Western Australia. The City covers an area of 19.0 square kilometres (7.3 sq mi), and lies about 19 kilometres (12 mi) southwest of the Perth central business district.

The City of Fremantle began in 1871 as the Fremantle Municipal Council. On 3 June 1929, it was declared a City - Western Australia's second after Perth, which was declared in 1856.^[1]
