He started out in 1860 Munich's youth system. He eventually made his debut, and playing tons of matches for their reserve team. After asking for a transfer to another team, he switched club to Hoffenheim.

In 2009, Janker, and his team member Andreas Ibertsberger, came under investigation after failing to report to a doping control promptly after the match against Borussia Mönchengladbach on 2 February 2009. The German Football Association (DFB) suspended the investigation due to the lack of evidence, also Janker was later tested negative. The investigation was widely covered by the German press.[1] On 23 May 2009 after the Bundesliga Finale announced his departure to end of the season on 30 June 2009[2].

On 28 May 2009 Janker signed an three year contract with Hertha BSC.[3].
