Chris Knights (born 25 September 1986) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League.

[edit] Football career

Knights, a dual Victorian Metropolitan under-18 representative (2003/04), was selected in the 2004 AFL Draft by the Adelaide Football Club at number 56 overall.

With the unexpected success of the Adelaide side in 2005, Knights was starved of opportunities, playing just two games in the 2005 season; however, he used that year to consolidate his skills and bulk up his frame. The 2006 pre season knockout competition (NAB Cup) represented an opportunity for Knights to prove himself a candidate for regular senior team selection. During all three rounds of the NAB Cup, including a losing grand final, Knights impressed the football media, who tagged him as "an AFL star of the future".

Knights saw more action in 2007, developing into a midfielder and regularly featuring in Adelaide's best players on a regular basis. He racked up a career high 37 disposals in a game against Collingwood that season. Since then, he has continued to impress in the midfield.

In round 7 of the 2009 season, Knights made a surprising move to the forward line. This move paid off, with Knights booting three and two goals respectively in losses against the Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions, before managing bags of five, four and five in the Crows' impressive victories over Carlton, Hawthorn and Essendon. At this point other teams began to take notice of Knights and he was often tagged closely, but while he no longer kicked large bags of goals, he remained a dangerous small forward capable of punishing an error or finishing a good play, finishing the season with four times as many goals as he had previously kicked in his entire career.
