Chris Holt (born June 5, 1985 in Vancouver, British Columbia) is an American professional hockey goaltender in the Ottawa Senators organization.[1] He has played for the New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League.
[edit] Playing careerHolt was drafted 180th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. Holt was first called up from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL in December 2005 as backup to Henrik Lundqvist while starting goalie Kevin Weekes was injured. He played just over 10 minutes in one game, not allowing a goal. He was sent back down to Hartford but was recalled to the Rangers on February 23, 2006. On October 30, 2008, Holt was signed as a free agent by the St. Louis Blues after playing two games for their affiliate the Peoria Rivermen.[2] On October 31, Holt was called-up to the Blues.[3] He was recalled by the Blues on February 6, 2009.[4] He made his first appearance for the Blues, and only his second appearance in the NHL on February 18, 2009 as a replacement for Chris Mason after Mason started the first two periods against the Columbus Blue Jackets, totaling 19 min., giving up no goals on three shots.[5] Despite his Canadian birth, Holt is an American citizen due to his mother being an American. He has represented the USA at the 2003 World Junior Championships on the US Under-18 National Team. He is the only former Billings Bulls player to play in the NHL. Chris has also earned the name "Candy" because of his unorthodox style of play.[6] In September 2009, he attended the 2009-10 Ottawa Senators training camp.[1] He was demoted to the Binghamton Senators organization which demoted him to the Elmira Jackals on September 30.
