Chris Getzlaf (born January 9, 1983) is a Canadian professional Canadian football slotback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
[edit] Early lifeBorn and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Getzlaf grew up playing ice hockey in addition to Canadian football with his younger brother, Ryan,[1] an NHL All-Star for the Anaheim Ducks. [edit] Playing careerGetzlaf played with the junior Prairie Thunder[1] and collegiate Regina Rams in his hometown before being drafted by the Hamilton Tiger Cats in the fifth round, 33rd overall, in the 2007 CFL Draft. He was then traded to the Saskatchewan Roughriders with Corey Holmes in exchange for Jason Armstead on August 19, 2007.[2] Getzlaf made his CFL debut in 2008 with Saskatchewan against the Calgary Stampeders and recorded his first career CFL catch and touchdown. Week 5 of the 2009 Saskatchewan Roughriders season was memorable for Getzlaf. With an injury to regular starting slotback Andy Fantuz, Getzlaf got the call up to and had a huge day with five receptions for 101 yards and two TDs including the opening score of the game and a 65-yard touchdown with 1:17 remaining in the game to give the Roughriders the 24 to 23 comeback victory.[3][4] [edit] Awards
