The flag used by the Chinese Taipei football team The Chinese Taipei national football team is the official name given by FIFA to the national football team of the Republic of China (Taiwan, see Chinese Taipei for team naming issue.) [edit] History The Chinese Taipei Football Association (CTFA) was founded in mainland China as the China Football Association in 1924 and relocated to Taiwan in 1949 at the end of the Chinese Civil War. Affiliated with FIFA in 1932 as China, it rejoined FIFA in 1954, first under the name Taiwan, then Republic of China, and later Chinese Taipei. The team's greatest success came when, playing as Taiwan, they finished third in the Asian Cup in 1960. However, the players in the team originally came from Hong Kong since the reputation of the Hong Kong national football team was not as good as the Republic of China's. Due to a political conflict with China PR, Chinese Taipei was an OFC member from 1975 to 1989. [edit] Stadium Most of the team's home matches are played in the Chungshan Soccer Stadium, located in Taipei. The stadium's capacity is slightly above 20,000 and is a football specific stadium.
