Cheorwon County (Cheorwon-gun), also spelt Cholwon, is a county in Gangwon Province, South Korea. It is located right next to the border with North Korea.

• Goguryeo - First named Moeuldongbi.
• Silla Dynasty - the term was changed to Cheolseong.
• Goryeo Dynasty
  • Gung Ye determined the capital.
  • In King Taejo of Goryeo (918) its name was changed to Cheorwon and then renamed as Dongju.
• Joseon Dynasty
  • King Taejong changed its name into 'Dohobu'.
  • In 26th year of King Sejong's throne (1434), it was transferred from Gyeonggi-do to Gangwon.
  • On May 26th of the King Gojong, altered to Chuncheon-bu.^[1]

Cheorwon was an important spot travelling to everywhere especially from Seoul to Wonsan and Kumgangsan.

The 43 National Road beginning from Seoul has been extended into a four-lane road, so traffic flows much better than it used to.^[2]

During the winter, Cheorwon is one of the coldest areas in South Korea.
