Chantal Claret (born February 21, 1982 in Berkeley, California, USA)[citation needed] is the lead singer and songwriter for the rock and power pop band Morningwood.[1] She was raised in New York City from the age of five, and recently moved to Los Angeles.[citation needed] Her singing style has been compared to singers such as Chrissie Hynde, Christina Amphlett, Debbie Harry, Shirley Manson,[2] and Beth Ditto[3]. At her live shows she is known to bring people up on stage and have them strip for a song called "Take Off Your Clothes".[citation needed] Claret also wears a gun holster as a microphone holder.[citation needed] As a teenager, she was a promoter for several clubs in New York.[4] Prior to meeting Pedro Yanowitz and starting Morningwood with him, Claret says she was attending film school with an eye on directing music videos.[5] She directed the Morningwood video for "Take Off Your Clothes".[citation needed] In 2002 Claret appeared in the short film, American Mod.[6] She co-wrote a monthly advice column in Alternative Press along with Riley Breckenridge, the drummer from Thrice, that ended in December 2007.
While her husband Jimmy Urine was touring with MSI for their album IF, she would occasionally come out on stage while Jimmy was performing the song Get it up and they would sing the song together. [edit] References
