Some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) refer to themselves as private voluntary organizations, in order to remain independent from the U.N.-developed lists of NGOs. NGOs can be single-issue organizations; for example Doctors Without Borders might dispense food supplements to counter malnutrition.
This category is closely related to the Charities and Non-profit organizations categories. For English speaking countries, whether an article appears in one or the other depends primarily on local usage, which varies from one country to another.
