The western river valley that drains the western southwestern United States is the Lower Colorado River Valley, as well as the complete Colorado River upstream from Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Colorado.

The eastern system is the Rio Grande, with its 3–sections: New Mexico, Big Bend National Park region-middle section, and lower river section, the Rio Grande Valley.
