The Colorado River is a river in the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico, approximately 1,450 mi (2,330 km) long, draining a part of the arid regions on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. The Colorado River also drains very small portions of the southeastern California deserts, parts of southern Nevada (as drainages to Lake Mead, including Las Vegas), and nearly all of the state of Arizona.

The Colorado River drains into the north end of the Gulf of California-(Sea of Cortez) to the east of the Baja California peninsula and at northwest Mexico. The eastern river system draining the southern-(and southeastern) Rocky Mountains and entering the northwestern Gulf of Mexico, is the Rio Grande of the Texas-Mexico border.
