Carlos E. Letona Jr, born in Guatemala City, Guatemala in March 16, 1986. He played soccer for various youth soccer academies throughout the city, including Maracana, Futeca, and CSD Comunicaciones. Due to massive waves of crime and violence in Guatemala City, him and his family migrated to the City of Houston, Texas in The United States of America in September 20, 1999 at age 13. There, he chose to continue his education and soccer formation at Humble High School, where he recorded 24 assists his junior year. He also played for Texas Heatwave Soccer Club from 2002 to 2004 achieving two state championships his senior year. Began his NAIA DI college soccer career at Huston-Tillotson University in the heart of East Downtown Austin, Texas. He transferred to first year men's soccer program at the University of St. Thomas (Texas) in Houston where he finished his injury-troubled college soccer career while playing under head coach Aaron Champenoy in November 2007. Has trained with various youth Guatemalan National Teams but has never made any official appearances for the Chapines. Went on trial for Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, in La Plata, Argentina in June 2008 and failing to stay in the Argentine football. Rejected offers from Deportivo Achuapa, Aurora F.C. of Guatemala's 1st Division, and trained with the New York Red Bulls of the Major League Soccer (MLS). Signed as Developmental Player with French Ligue 2 Club Clermont Foot Auvergne 63 where he did pre-pre-season with the reserves team starting all 5 pre-pre-season games, including wins against notable French football clubs Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille. Although, injuries have kept him out of achieving playing time, has been persistent in getting healthy and working hard to get back on the starting squads. Carlos E. Letona Jr. is expected to help his national side, bringing strong tackles in the midfield and providing pace in the wide attacking sector, when needed. His European-football style of play is found attractive to Latin American football teams, though, he has rejected offers from teams in Guatemala and Chile. Also holds a USSFA "D" license and has trained youth teams in Texas. [edit] References |
