The Digicel Caribbean Championship 2008 is the 2008 edition of the Caribbean Cup, the international football (soccer) team championship for the Caribbean region of CONCACAF. The finals was were held in Jamaica from 3-14 December 2008. The four semifinalists – Jamaica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, and Cuba – all qualified for the 2009 edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup,[1] although Cuba later withdrew and was replaced by Haiti.[2] Qualifying began in July 2008. The qualifying rounds were used to qualify a total of six teams to the final round of the tournament to join the hosts, Jamaica, and the reigning champions, Haiti, who were given direct entry to the final group stage. The name was changed this year from Digicel Caribbean Cup to Digicel Caribbean Championship.[3] [edit] Group Stage One [edit] Format The five group winners along with the four best second-place teams will be placed into three groups hosted by Guadeloupe, Cuba and Trinidad & Tobago from 11 October - 9 November.[1] [edit] Teams that did not enter Nine CFU teams did not enter, meaning 4 fewer participants than in the Caribbean Nations Cup 2006-07 edition. (This became 2 fewer participants, when 2 further teams withdrew during the 2006-07 tournament). Saint Lucia were originally the third team, but they dropped out and Dominica took their place. Dominica switched to Group B the day before the first match, and Aruba took their place. Suriname qualify as one of 4 best runners-up. Aruba were originally in Group B, but they dropped out and later rejoined the tournament in Group A. Dominica took their place in this group. [edit] Group C All Group C matches were hosted by the Cayman Islands Football Association. - Notes
