Canada World Youth (CWY) or fr:Jeunesse Canada Monde, is a Canadian Non-governmental organization dedicated to developing engaged citizens through informal education and international exchanges among youth. CWY arranges for Canadian youths to be paired with youths from "developing" countries. Groups of about ten pairs live and work together under the supervision of a pair of group leaders (one from each country). These pairs then live, perform community service and learn about issues within a Canadian community for about three months and then do the same in a community within the host country of the non-Canadian participant. In each country, the participants complete some kind of community work and learn about local issues by interacting with community members. CWY also offered an information technology oriented youth program through CWY's NetCorps program. However, it has been discontinued as of the 2008-2009 season. The mission statement of Canada-World Youth is "to increase the ability of people, and especially youth, to participate actively in the development of just, harmonious and sustainable societies." Canada World Youth was founded by the late retired senator, Jacques Hébert. It is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, with another regional office in Toronto. Its main source of funding is from the Canadian International Development Agency. [edit] References
