Cameron Stokes is a current Australian Rules Football player listed with the Hawthorn Football Club. Stokes was recruited to the Hawks via the 2007 AFL rookie draft, selected at pick 54. He made his AFL debut in the opening round of the 2008 AFL season, alongside fellow Northern Territorian Cyril Rioli. Stokes is often referred to being the cousin of Mathew Stokes of the Geelong Cats but they are in fact no relation. Stokes relatives are in fact, his fathers maternal cousin Andrew McLeod of the Adelaide Crows and his fathers paternal cousins Greg (St Kilda), Gilbert (St Kilda, Brisbane Lions) and Adrian McAdam (Nth Melbourne). Stokes is a former captain of the Northern Territory under age state team.

Cameron is a product of and played all his junior football with The Darwin Football Club (Buffaloes)in Darwin. He has a long family history with the club through his Mothers side the Sariago's and his Father's side the Stokes and Ahmat families. Cameron's Father Steven Stokes and Great Uncle Don Stokes are both former Nicholl's Medal winners, the Best and Fairest award in the Northern Territory Football League. His Grandfather Sam Stokes, Great Grandfather Ali Ahmat and Great Great Grandfather Putt Ahmat have all played for the DFC along with many other family members. Cameron's Uncle Frank Stokes also played for the Manly Sea Eagles in the New South Wales Rugby League for many years.
