[edit] Character History

Sergeant Callum Stone swooped into Sun Hill with a style that simply isn’t cricket. On his first day at the station Stone disarms a cricket bat-wielding thug, making it crystal clear that he is an alpha male who’s taking no hostages.

Stone's a leader of men and has no time for the meek or the weak. He has been quick to sum everyone up in a nutshell and plan their futures playing to their strengths.

Stone’s a tough cockney. He enjoys policing in uniform for the statement it makes – CID isn’t for him.

He’s a natural leader but also one of the lads who is encouraging, part of the team and full of camaraderie. Stone’s got a strong sense of right and wrong and knows the law inside-out – enough to know how far to bend it for his advantage. [1]

Stone has been seen to dole out his own style of justice: when it looks like a bad guy is going to get away with their crime, determined to see justice done, Stone makes them pay himself. Now he has recruited his own gang. Will Fletcher saw his sergeant talk a paedophile into leaping to his own death – that was his initiation into Stone’s gang. Then Sally Armstrong joined up after Stone found out she had drunk too much booze whilst undercover and ended up driving later that evening. He thought she was irresponsible but didn’t hold it against her: another gang member recruited.

And when Ben Gayle head-butts an abusive father Stone makes sure he’s not sacked for it, by ensuring it’s covered up. However after all of this he has become popular amongst his officers and the team now appear to show him a lot of respect.

In episode 625, "Appropriate Force", it is revealed by one of the suspects that Stone "sleeps around", with other men's wives.

Sgt.Stone likes to wear his uniform different from the rest of the relief, as he does not bother to put his clip on tie on.

[edit] Feud With Sergeant Smith

In recent times, Sergeant Stone was considered as the new Inspector to replace Gina Gold, but Gina said that she thought Callum would prefer to be out there on the front line with his team, and wouldn't be prepared to change any time soon. Newcomer Rachel Weston was promoted to Inspector by Spt. John Heaton. After Weston left, Smithy was promoted to Inspector, which now gives him the upper hand over Stone. In episode 001 "Conviction" Stone discovered that Smithy had beaten up Jason Devlin, a man who had just attacked Stevie Moss. Stone encouraged Smithy to lie and claim that he had discovered Devlin in his condition. Smithy finally agreed, not wanting to lose his job, but continued to feel guilty over what he had done. The following episode, 002 "Riot City" Stone and Smithy led the rest of the uniform team on a practice scenario to give them experience in dealing with riots. After Stone broke his orders from Rachel Weston he ended up fighting with Smithy, mainly being a way for Smithy to vent his anger and frustration over what had happened with Devlin. Smithy was eventually cleared of any wrong doing and later promoted to Inspector. [2]

[edit] Stone's Gang

When Stone first arrived it soon became clear that he had favourites, those who were willing to go the extra mile to get a result. This soon became clear after Stone allowed a man to commit suicide in front of himself and Will Fletcher. Will felt guilty, claiming he could have saved the man's life, whilst Stone believed he had acted accordingly, as the man was in fact a violent criminal who had evaded the law. Furthermore, when PC Sally Armstrong crashed her car whilst drunk, she went to Stone who arranged an alibi for Sally. With some help from PC Ben Gayle, Sally was able to escape being charged for drink-driving. Stone then used the situation to his advantage, using his power over people like Sally to get them to do things they might not normally do. A person aware of Stone's 'gang' was PC Emma Keane, who had realised that Stone had a hold over Will Fletcher and Sally Armstrong. Emma manipulated Stone into admitting that he had a gang, before staging a kiss - when he finally leant in to reciprocate Emma pulled out and revealed that she knew that Stone had feelings for her. It became clear that Stone was only being protective of Emma by not letting her in his 'gang'. However, Emma's determination to prove herself led her to getting killed in an explosion after trying to save others, despite orders to evacuate the building.
