Callista Louise Gingrich (born March 4, 1966) is the wife of former Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich and the President of Gingrich Productions, a performance and production company focused on audio, video, and photographic production.[2]
[edit] Education and early careerCallista graduated as the Valedictorian from Whitehall Memorial High School in Whitehall, Wisconsin in 1984. In high school, she participated in concert band, choir, forensics, volleyball, ecology club, and National Honor Society.[2] Mrs. Gingrich graduated cum laude and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music with a concentration in public communication from Luther College (Iowa) in Decorah, Iowa in 1988. While at Luther College, Mrs. Gingrich was a Pi Kappa Lambda Member and Regents Scholar. [2] Prior to leading Gingrich Productions, from 1988-2006, Mrs. Gingrich worked in the United States House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. She served as a staffer on the House Committee on Agriculture and in the Office of Congressman Steve Gunderson (R-WI).[2] [edit] Multimedia productionsMrs. Gingrich is the voice for several audio books, including 5 Principles for a Successful Life; Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less; The Art of Transformation; Real Change; Contract with the Earth; and Rediscovering God in America.[3] Callista and her husband, Newt, host and produce historical and public policy documentaries. Recent films include Rediscovering God in America, We Have the Power, Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny, and Rediscovering God in America II: Our Heritage. Nine Days that Changed the World is currently in production.[4] Mrs. Gingrich is also the voice for American Solutions for Winning the Future, a bipartisan organization for political and governmental change.[2] Callista's photography has been published in The New York Times and Washington Post. It is featured in a newly revised photographic edition of Rediscovering God in America. Her photography is regularly displayed on Newt.org and Gingrich Productions.com.[2] [edit] MusicMrs. Gingrich is a member of the Choir of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., a resident professional choir. In March 2005, the Choir visited Rome to honor Pope John Paul II, and recorded a compact disc entitled Pope John Paul II: A Celebration of Life and Faith. In April 2008, the Choir sang for Pope Benedict XVI, during his Apostolic Journey to the United States. In November 2008, the Choir participated in the International Festival of Sacred Music and Art in Rome.[2] Callista plays the French horn with the City of Fairfax Band in Fairfax, Virginia, promoting musical growth and education among area residents and students. The Band performs frequently in Fairfax, Virginia, and the Washington, D.C. area. The City of Fairfax Band is a recipient of the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Silver Scroll Award. The Sudler Silver Scroll is regarded to be North America's most prestigious award for community concert bands.[2] [edit] Charitable workMrs. Gingrich is the President of the Gingrich Foundation, a charitable nonprofit corporation. Among its charitable contributions, the Gingrich Foundation has established the Newt L. and Callista L. Gingrich Scholarship at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, which provides annual scholarships for instrumental music majors.[5] Other grants have been awarded to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington National Opera, Wolf Trap Foundation, City of Fairfax Band, Atlanta Ballet, Mount Vernon Ladies Association, Museum of the Rockies, American Museum of Natural History, Arthritis Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association, Learning Makes a Difference Foundation, and the Trust for Public Land.[2] [edit] References
