The California Dental Association, more commonly known as CDA, is a non-profit organization representing dentists in California. Founded in 1870, CDA supports its members in their practices and service to the public through innovation in education, advocacy and related programs. CDA also contributes to the oral health of Californians through various comprehensive programs and advocacy. CDA’s membership consists of more than 24,000 dentists in 32 local dental societies throughout the state, making it the largest constituent of the American Dental Association.

CDA holds its biannual convention, CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry (formerly known as Scientific Sessions), in Anaheim and San Francisco each year. The meetings offer lectures, technical exhibits and the opportunity for dental professionals to fulfill continuing education requirements. It is one of the largest dental conventions in the country and the largest on the west coast with nearly 20,000 dental professionals consistently attending.

The association publishes the Journal of the California Dental Association, Update, and Stages.

[edit] CDA Foundation

The CDA Foundation was formed as the philanthropic affiliate of the California Dental Association in 2001 with the mission to improve the oral health of Californians by supporting the dental health profession and its efforts to increase access to care for the state's most vulnerable people. The CDA Foundation works with experts in the dental profession, private business, academic institutions and government to produce programs that increase access to care, promote prevention education and intervention, advance health policy research and build a sustainable oral health workforce.

[edit] The Dentists Insurance Company (TDIC)

TDIC was established by CDA as a wholly-owned subsidiary in 1980 with the mission to assure the continued availability of the highest quality insurance for dentists at the lowest premiums consistent with sound operating principles. TDIC is an insurer governed by dentists, exclusively for dental professionals, and offers comprehensive Professional and Business Liability, Building and Business Personal Property and Employment Practices Liability coverage.

TDIC Insurance Solutions was founded in 1982 by a group of CDA members to offer products and services specifically for dentists, their families, staff and practices. Its mission is to support dental professionals in their practice and service to the public by providing the best value insurance products and related services. Insurance coverage includes life, health, disability, workers’ compensation, home, auto and long-term care.
