CD52 is a protein present on the surface of mature lymphocytes, but not on the stem cells from which these lymphocytes were derived. It also is found in monocytes[1] and dendritic cells.[2] It is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)--anchored antigen expressed on the all lymphocytes as well as within the male genital tract. [edit] Clinical significance It is the protein targeted by alemtuzumab, an antibody used for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. It is associated with certain types of lymphoma.[3] [edit] References - ^ Buggins AG, Mufti GJ, Salisbury J, et al. (September 2002).
