The C9 League is an association of nine top Chinese universities.

On May 4, 1998, President Jiang Zemin stated that "China must have a number of top-class universities at international level", so Project 985 was initiated. In the first phase, nine universities were selected and allocated funding for the first period of three years. On October 10, 2009, the C9 League was created by the nine universities：

• Fudan University
• Harbin Institute of Technology
• Nanjing University
• Peking University
• Shanghai Jiao Tong University
• Tsinghua University
• University of Science and Technology of China
• Xi'an Jiao Tong University
• Zhejiang University
