Contents

[edit] Background

Christina Aguilera will make her theatrical film and musical debut as the leading character, a "small-town girl with a big voice", who after the death of her parents finds work at a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club, inspired by Bob Fosse's Cabaret.[1] Burlesque started shooting November 9, 2009.

Cher is also set to co-star in this film, her first starring role in a decade and first musical film.[2] She plays Tess, a former dancer who struggles to keep the nightclub open and serves as a mentor to Christina Aguilera's character, Ali.

Aguilera's love interest will be played by Cam Gigandet, and Stanley Tucci has been cast as the nightclub's manager. Alan Cumming, Kristen Bell, Eric Dane and Julianne Hough have all signed on to the film as well.[3]

Antin wrote the script, and was later revised/edited by Susannah Grant.[4]

[edit] Plot

After the sudden death of her parents, Ali, a small-town girl (Christina Aguilera) from Iowa moves to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams of singing. She gets a gig at a neo-burlesque club, ran by Tess (Cher) a former dancer, who becomes a mentor for the young girl. In the midst of her hardships and traumas, Ali finds love in a young pianist (Cam Gigandet).[5]

[edit] Cast

The script was written with Christina Aguilera in mind as the lead. Screen Gems' President Clint Culpepper was able to persuade Cher to get on board.

[edit] Production

[edit] Soundtrack

Singer-songwriter Sia Furler has worked with Aguilera on a song for the film. Record producer, Danja has also been working on songs for the film. The film is set to have 18 numbers, as well.[11]. Tricky Stewart has announced that he will be producing the score. [12]
