The Brooklyn Italians (also known as Italians United) are an American soccer club based in Brooklyn, New York. The club was founded in 1949 by John DeVivo. Originally a member of the American Soccer League, they now play in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League. Considered by many to be one of the most successful semi pro teams in the United States. Following the 1960/61 season, the Italians merged with Inter S.C., another Brooklyn Club, to form the Inter-Brooklyn Italians (see below). After several name changes the club have reverted to their original name and play at Dreier Offermann Park in Brooklyn. The team colors are cerise and navy shirts. The Italians have won the US Open Cup on two occasions. Firstly under the name Brooklyn Dodgers in 1979 and then as the Italians in 1991. The current Brooklyn Italians president is Jerry Valerio.
[edit] HistoryThe Brooklyn Italians Soccer Club is located in Brooklyn, New York. It is the vision of the organization to educate the youth of Brooklyn, and surrounding areas, with the opportunity to participate in organized travel soccer. Brooklyn Italians emphasizes instruction, and education, on basic and advanced soccer skills, structured team play, sportsmanship, character building, leadership and a sense of fair play. Through supervision by qualified coaches, coupled with these ideals, they hope to be competitive on the field of play and provide a framework for success in education and other endeavors as the youth develop. All teams play in the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL) of Eastern New York. This offers an opportunity to play a competitive schedule, that gives wide exposure to the highest levels of the youth game. Brooklyn Italians regularly competes in Italy, in the " Memorial Claudio Sassi", Dallas Cup, the President's Day Tournament in Phoenix, and college showcases across the country. International travel is encouraged, and teams have trained with many of the elite teams from Italy. The club encourages players to go beyond the common goal of college soccer. Brooklyn Italians has alumni that are, or who have played, in the U.S. National Team, Europe, MLS, and the many divisions of the USL. To date, Brooklyn Italians has won two U.S. Open Cup, the first in 1979 and for the second time 1991. Today, the competition is now known as the "Lamar U.S. Open Cup". [edit] Year-by-year

[edit] Inter-Brooklyn Italians/Inter S.C./Boca JuniorsThe Inter-Brooklyn Italians was an American soccer club based in Brooklyn, New York that was a member of the American Soccer League. The club was formed from a merger of the Brooklyn Italians and Inter S.C. (see above). After their first season, the club was renamed Inter S.C.. Before the 1963/64 season, the team became the Boca Juniors, named after the famous club in Argentina. The team has continued under various names in the years since, being known as the Dodgers, after the former brooklyn Baseball team in 1979 and then back to the Italians by 1991.
